History[]

Rugby in Kalama[]

Main article: Kalama Warheads

The Duwamish Rugby Super League (DRSL) was founded as the first professional rugby football league, playing rugby union, in 1977 and included a team from Kalama, nicknamed the "Warheads" for the alleged stockpile of nuclear warheads at military bases in the region. The Warheads won the league championship twice, in 2000 and 2003, before the league ceased operations in 2005.

Foundation and inaugural season[]

Kalama R.F.C. was founded when the SimSports League of Rugby established two Duwamishite franchises, one in Kalama and another in Dawson. The Dawson franchise would later be named the Dawson Blizzard, while the Kalama franchise was named the Kalama Rugby Football Club. During their first match of the season, under head coach Caleb Park, Kalama won 30–20 over Sonic City RFC. They defeated the Rorysville Highlanders 23–17 in the first round of the Supporters Shield and continued to dominate the SSRL with a 17–14 win over the Freeport Moose in the second match of the season. Kalama won 13–7 over RBV United in week 3 and clinched the first place spot in week 4 with a 13–13 draw with Riverbourne City RFC.

Jersey and colors[]

Kalama R.F.C. adopted the traditional sporting colors of Kalama, blue and Duwamish green, in their crests and jerseys. Their crest incorporates a silhouette of Mount Kalama and Mount Goodwin as well as a green rugby football. Their home kits are all blue with white shoulder stripes, while their away kits are all green with white shoulder stripes. Several companies have expressed interest in becoming the jersey sponsor of the club, including Gangnam Aerospace and Goodwin Motors.

Ground[]

Kalama's home ground is the 40,000-capacity Gangnam Stadium in Kalama, which has its upper bowl covered with tarp during rugby matches. The club has played at Gangnam Stadium since their foundation in 2011 and considered other sites around the Kalama area, including the 28,000-capacity Koalas Stadium and 46,000-capacity East Kalama Park.
